Well the move went about as smoothly
as I could have wished for. We were down for only a couple of hours. We
appreciate your patience during the move. |

WebTower is moving! An equipment
move is planned for December 6th, 1999. The new location will provide many
benefits including fiber redundancy and battery capacity. For the duration
of the move, approximately three to six hours, WebTower will be inaccessible
and you will receive a "DNS failure" error, or "Site unreachable error".
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. |

It's been a while since I've had
a chance to work on the polling script. I've had the script working since
August actually but I wanted to add a feature that will allow web site
owners to create new polls and then use those polls or any poll(s) submitted
by others on their own site. This will require a re-working of the script
pretty much from start to finish and I just haven't had a chance to get
it all done but I'm still plugging away at in bits and pieces. |

What happened to the Polling script?
As some of you may know, I spend most of my time trading stock securities.
Lately the bond market has been goofy and I've been spending much more
time researching stocks. Never-the-less, I'll get back to the Poll script
soon, get it online, and it'll be cool. |

Comin Soon! For the
last week, off and on, I've been writing a Poll script for the site. It
will allow anyone to create category specific poll topics and of course
to vote on polls created by others. I'm including code to allow anyone
to add their own new choice to existing polls as well. Look for the polls
to start showing up around the site soon. Browse to any category and create
a new poll specific to that category... |

Changed back to the drop down navigation
boxes (dressed em up abit though) but no javascript; they call the cgi
redirect script mentioned below. I liked the look of the scrolling boxes
but after using them myself for awhile I changed because they are much
slower to navigate than the drop downs. |

Well, I've already changed the "plain
jane" drop-down select boxes at the top of the page with scrolling multiple
select boxes. They take up abit more room but I can still cram a bunch
of links into a small space. They also call a cgi script so there's no
javascript to cause incompatibility problems. |

A note concerning the "plain jane"
drop-down select navigation boxes. They auto-run on change just fine without
needing a select button on NS4 and MSIE4 browsers but I haven't back tested
older browsers. If changing the selection in one of the drop-down select
boxes doesn't auto-run on your browser when you select it, after making
your new selection, click anywhere on the page outside the select box.
If that doesn't load the new page please use this comment
link and tell me what browser and version you are using as I may need to
add submit buttons back in for older browsers.
Added the "comment or suggestion"

The site re-structuring is underway.
As you can see I am of the opinion that "basic is better", nothing fancy
here. The main focus of the redesign is to improve page load times and
provide easy navigation to any part of the site from any other part of
the site. I may revert back to Java applets for the site navigation links
but I will probably keep graphics to a minimum for awhile. Your comments/suggestions
welcomed. |
